Adapting ordering flows, promotions, loyalty systems, and visual communication to local coffee habits and digital behaviors is essential to driving engagement and repeat purchases. Localization goes beyond language.

Developed a digital retail CX strategy for Luckin Coffee's overseas expansion, helping the brand translate its China-born app model into a localized Southeast Asia experience. The project combined coffee culture research, consumer behavior insights, loyalty strategy, digital ordering, and visual design language to support a scalable global market launch.

Challenge

Luckin Coffee needed to expand from China into highly competitive Southeast Asian markets without simply exporting its existing app experience. The challenge was to understand local coffee habits, language and reading behaviors, promotion expectations, and young consumers' digital retail preferences, then balance global brand consistency with localized UX, loyalty, and market differentiation.

Solution

I supervised the regional app and retail launch experience. We analyzed coffee, F&B, e-commerce, and social apps across markets; redesigned digital ordering, coupon sharing, membership tiers, product discovery, and interface patterns; and created a localized design language with guidelines for future expansion.

Impact

The work gave Luckin Coffee a scalable digital experience foundation for global expansion, connecting customer loyalty, shopping flow, brand expression, and design system consistency. It helped the brand move beyond transaction-driven ordering toward a youthful, localized retail experience, strengthening APAC market relevance, member engagement, and repeatable design principles for future product and campaign growth.
